That's a Frenchman standing in the river. He stepped into some deep mud, and is trying to clean it
off his boot. The white rhime on everything is, indeed, salt, so I wonder what his boot looked like
the next day? Vincent, the Frenchman, his wife and I shared a cab for the day, riding around the various
sites nearby Kuqa. More photographs to come...but after being told more than once that I'd not likely
see any foreigners between Korla and Kashgar, except as an occasional face on a passing bus, I was surprised
to meet several Europeans in my own hotel, and see numerous others about town. <sigh> At least
I had the town to myself on Market day.
