Other than people (and, in this region, mud brick) there is nothing more common than coal in China.
You need all the manpower to move the coal (notice the shovels and coal-litters?). You pay the manpower
next to nothing to move the coal, so it's all they can afford for heating and cooking, and to power
their industry.
