It was on this section, this two-day crossing from Jiayuguan to Anxi, that we began to exceed some personal
limits. The first day was great: we managed to put in our first Century, 100 miles, mostly through
Oasis and with the aid of a mild tailwind. We also got a nice little spot to camp at the edge of the
last Oasis before Anxi. But the next day required 100 kms through nearly waterless desert, and Emma
reached Anxi only through the resilience, dogged determination. It weren't no fun.
