What a character he was (not the German). Beside the Uighur dictionary entry of 'codger' this man's
picture appears. The German (on the camel) had scooted up ahead, apparently unable to reign in the
recalcitrant camel once it had decided (finally) to begin moving. So this guy, who's hitched a ride
now with the rest of us, is whipping the cart driver's donkey, trying to get the poor beast to match
the galloping camel's pace. All the while, gabbling with the driver and responding to our questions
(interpreted by the tour guide). Funny day.
