This is California Edison's Solar One power generating facility. A huge circular bank of mirrors reflect
sunlight at the tower heating the water flowing through it to steam. The steam drives turbines. The
turbines turn generators. Voila, electricity. Want an idea of how much energy is involved?
The mirrors weren't quite focussed when we went by. Two beams are converging just off the tower.
Think about this...there is only atmosphere for the light to reflect off. That's an awful lot of light.
