In the background, way back there, you may be able to make out a net strung across the end of the pool.
That's to keep the 'freshie' (freshwater crocodile) residing on this end of the pool away from the
swimmers using the beach on the other side. Freshies are rather docile, at least in comparison to the
notorious salties (yep, saltwater crocodile -- the name's a misnomer since you'll find them quite far
inland, and well away from the ocean). But the freshie at this pond's been a bit peevish of late and
while a nippy cat or dog is a nuisance, a 4 or 5 foot long amphibian with big teeth should be taken
more seriously.
